Welcome to Ankur Trust

Ankur Trust was formed and registered in 1993 as a not for profit charitable trust with a non-political and secular outlook. We started our work in Pen, Alibag and Khalapur blocks of Raigad district, Maharashtra in 1994 and widened our work to include Dodamarg and Sawantwadi blocks of Sindhudurg district, Maharshtra in 2007.

Ankur Trust’s work is two pronged. In Raigad, we work with the marginalized ‘ancient’ tribe of Kathkari and women to provide them with education and land rights and also empower and organize them to claim their rights.

In Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri districts, though it has been declared a bio-diversity hotspot, many power plants, mines and SEZs are slated to start in the region. These projects will not only destroy an entire eco-system but will also impact the livelihood of the communities staying there. Ankur Trust works closely with the forest dependent communities here to provide them with legal aid and support them in preserving the biodiversity of the region and their livelihood.

Ankur Trust was established with the aim to fight against a system that nurtured injustice and created disparity between the powerful and the underprivileged.
